As we travel beyond personal securities, we consistently carry wayfaring versions of surrogate comforts. We bring with us mindsets and physical or hypothetical objects that allow us to continue to operate without the standard necessities of “home.” As residents, we knew we were going “beyond,” and so naturally we did our best to adapt. I wanted to capture the essence of vulnerability we were all exposed to, asking each resident to bring forth objects they believed were items of comfort for a curated portrait exposing our concealed un-comforts.
