Two Breaths Per Day
The tides bring a lot of things to the Islands of Deer Isle Archipelago. They bring rubber and rocks and rags and rowboats. They bring shells and shorebirds and smiles and strangers. They bring life and color, and breaths and breezes. They brought 13 visitors and for days went about their business of bringing and breathing. Two breaths per day, in and out.
The tides bring a whole lot to the island. I made a basket from a forgotten lobster rope and held my breath.
